Paraguay: Bioceanic Route is South America’s most important integration project
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The President of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, affirmed that the Bioceanic Route is the work that will most promote integration in South America.
“We were recently in the Republic of Chile, and we talked with President [Sebastián] Piñera that this is the work in the whole history between Paraguay and Chile that will have the greatest impact on the regional integration process”, said Abdo Benítez in a press conference during the inauguration of the first section of the Bioceanic Route, which goes from Loma Plata to Carmelo Peralta.
For a long time, there have been talks of the importance of regional integration processes “to have a strategy not only as Mercosur and as Prosur (Forum for the Progress of South America), but a strategy for integration processes to be respectful of the autonomy of the peoples,” added Abdo Benítez.

The president considered that much of the regional integration was hindered by “contamination of ideological processes”.
“[The Bioceanic Road] is the true integration that will generate prosperity, that does not depend on the presidents, that we understand that it is between friendly nations. This work has a geopolitical impact because it will give us much more strength in negotiations with our neighbors and because we will contribute with the different countries of the region”, he added.
According to the government, once the route is completed, it will link the most important maritime ports of both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and generate an additional 2,500 jobs; in addition, the route passes through Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay.
