Brazil Shatters Meat Export Records in 2024, Eyes Further Growth in 2025
Brazilian meat exports reached unprecedented levels in 2024, according to data released by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporters (ABIEC) and the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).
The country achieved record volumes across beef, pork, and chicken sectors. Beef exports surged to 2.89 million tonnes, marking a dramatic 26.2% increase from 2023 figures.
This historic performance generated $12.8 billion in revenue, 21.3% higher than the previous year. China maintained its position as the primary destination for Brazilian beef, importing 1.33 million tonnes valued at $6 billion.
The United States ranked second in beef imports with 229,000 tonnes worth $1.35 billion. Other significant markets included the United Arab Emirates, European Union, Chile, and Hong Kong. The sector expanded its reach to 157 countries for all beef products.
Chicken meat exports also thrived, reaching 5.294 million tonnes in 2024. This represented a 3% increase over 2023 volumes and generated $9.928 billion in revenue. Monthly chicken exports consistently exceeded 440,000 tonnes throughout the year.
The pork industry showed remarkable growth as well. Exports reached 1.35 million tonnes, approximately 10% higher than 2023 figures. This growth stemmed partly from Brazil opening new international markets and maintaining strong demand from existing buyers.
Brazil’s Meat Industry Eyes Further Growth
Industry leaders express optimism about prospects for 2025. ABIEC President Roberto Perosa highlighted promising negotiations with Japan, Vietnam, Turkey, and South Korea. These markets represent significant portions of global beef consumption.
The record-breaking performance reflects joint efforts between private companies and government agencies. Brazil strengthened its position as the world’s largest exporter of beef and chicken meat. The country successfully maintained disease-free status while competitors faced challenges with animal health issues.
Domestic consumption remained robust across all meat categories. The Brazilian economic situation supported sustained consumption levels domestically while external demand continued to drive production increases.
Industry analysts predict continued growth in 2025, with potential to surpass 2024’s impressive figures as Brazil pursues additional market openings and trade relationships.
