Brazil posts US$6.31 billion trade surplus in April up to third week

By · April 19, 2021 · 1 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the month, exports totaled US$15.381 billion, with US$6.844 billion in the third week. Imports reached US$9.071 billion for the month, after adding US$3.840 billion in the last week.

Earlier this month, Economy revised the methodology adopted in the compilation of the trade balance statistics and recalculated with the new parameters the numbers of its historical series, starting in 1997, which resulted in a reduction of 16.5% of the accumulated balance calculated until 2020.

For 2021, the same change in criteria contributed to an increase in the surplus, which rose from US$1.648 billion in the accumulated until March to US$7.908 billion. Adding the data for April, calculated based on the new methodology, the positive balance accumulated in the year reaches US$14.220 billion.
