Brazil’s Bia Haddad wins; heads to the Australian Open doubles final

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian tennis player Bia Haddad Maia and Kazakh Anna Danilina defeated Japanese Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara on Wednesday night, January 26, and advanced to the final of the Australian Open.

The Brazilian and the Kazakh defeated the seeded double number 2 of the tournament by 2 sets to 1 with scores of 6/4, 5/7 and 6/4 in 2 hours and 18 minutes.

In the final, Bia Haddad and Anna Danilina will face the winner of the match between B. Krejcikova/K. Siniakova and V. Kudermetova/E. Mertens. The final is scheduled for the early hours of next Sunday, January 30.

The 25-year-old tennis player’s season reinforces the good moment of the Brazilian women’s tennis after the Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo, also in doubles.
