An investment group affiliated with the leftist tycoon will buy the historic Radio Mambí and 18 other Spanish-language stations characterized by their right-wing, anti-communist programming.
A George Soros media group received the go-ahead this week from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to buy a total of 18 Spanish-language radio stations distributed throughout the United States, despite complaints that this would create a monopoly in radio broadcasting.
Among these 18 stations is the emblematic Radio Mambí, a station historically linked to the Cuban exile community and of anti-communist ideology, which Soros’ allies will now control once the deal is finalized.
The Soros company that will monopolize Hispanic radio is Latino Media Network, a media company run by Jess Morales Rocketto and Stephanie Valencia, two former Obama White House staffers and advisors to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Biden’s FCC, which rejected a request to block such transactions filed by Latino listeners, reported that the amount to be paid by Soros’ investment fund for the radio conglomerate would be over US$60 million.
In addition to the historic Radio Mambí, Radios Hispanas de Nueva York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Antonio will be purchased.
There is no doubt that its content, so far more pro-Trump and pro-Republican Party, will begin to have a tone much more in favor of Joe Biden.
This massive media acquisition by Soros comes as a desperate attempt to win back Latino voters that the Democratic Party lost in the last election thanks to the successful policies of former President Donald Trump, who turned them into Republican supporters for the first time in a long time in several states.
“With the last major hurdle cleared, the Soros-backed Latino Media Network can finalize its purchase of Univision stations, neutralizing or killing the anti-communist bastion Radio Mambi, and attempting to exert influence over the 2024 elections in the nation’s top Hispanic markets,” analyst Jorge Bonilla told Fox News.
Even though the takeover of Radio Mambi represents a hard blow for the anti-communist community in Miami, the main broadcasters of the network announced that they refuse to be controlled by Soros and assured that they would resign from their jobs when the sale is finalized.
Some of them have already stepped aside and formed the brand new Radio Libre 790 on Oct. 3, which has some of the best stars of Radio Mambí and will be a Spanish-language alternative to the change in programming that is expected in the networks bought by Soros.
