Putin reaffirms ties with Caracas: “Venezuela is our strategic partner”

Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated that under Maduro’s leadership, Venezuela is a “strategic partner” of Moscow, assuring that he intends to expand bilateral cooperation in all spheres, especially in energy.

“Venezuela is our strategic partner and reliable ally in Latin America and worldwide. We are engaged in intensive dialogue with President Maduro. Russia’s and Venezuela’s positions on the main issues of the international agenda are close,” Putin said.

Russia supports the Venezuelan government’s efforts to stabilize the internal situation and protect national sovereignty,” he said. “We condemn the illegal sanctions against the republic,” he added, according to the TASS news agency.

The Russian leader’s statements are in line with previous statements made by Venezuela.

In July, the dictatorship’s Foreign Minister Carlos Faría condemned from Moscow the sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and its allies over its invasion of Ukraine, and also criticized the supply of military equipment for reinforcing the Ukrainian army.
