Venezuela demands the immediate lifting of U.S. and EU sanctions

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faría, in his speech at the meeting with the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), reiterated his government’s demand for lifting sanctions imposed by the United States and European Union (EU) countries.

This NAM meeting took place within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in the US city of New York (East).

Since 2017, more than 700 sanctions have been imposed on Venezuela by the United States and the European Union, which, according to the government, have a direct impact on developing the country’s economy and production systems.

Faría added that the sanctions affected more than a third of humanity and stressed that more than 30 countries, including Venezuela, are victims of these measures, which he considers a violation of human rights.

The foreign minister also said that sanctions had become the “preferred” tool of countries seeking domination.

“The adoption and implementation of unilateral coercive measures seem to have recently become the preferred tool of some countries seeking neocolonial domination to impose their sovereign will,” he said.

In addition, the minister recalled that humanity is facing a “profound” crisis triggered by the Covid event, which he said goes beyond the health sector as it impacts the world’s environment, energy, food, and financial sectors.

The minister called for greater solidarity and direction, stressing that coordinated and decisive action is the way to address common challenges that lead to peace, justice, security, development, and the guarantee of rights that the world is calling for.

The Foreign Minister also spoke of the need for a strong and united movement that underscores the anti-war nature of member countries and their commitment to peace and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to its consolidation.
