Avianca airlines launches direct route between Quito and Cancun

Colombian carrier Avianca Airlines inaugurated a new direct flight service on Thursday, connecting Ecuador’s capital, Quito, with the popular tourist city of Cancun in Mexico.

This non-stop route marks an additional stride in connecting Ecuador with more international destinations.

Niels Olsen, the Ecuadorian Minister of Tourism, at an official ceremony said, “We’ve begun new operations that enable us to put more of Ecuador on the world stage and bring more of the world to Ecuador, and today we celebrate a new link, this time with Mexico, through the airports of Quito and Cancun.”

He praised Avianca for introducing this new destination, which joins the airline’s network of 11 international routes, effectively connecting Ecuador to the rest of the world.

Olsen underscored that this new route bolsters air connectivity, stimulating the local economy by attracting more employment, tourism, and investment.

Avianca will operate this new route three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, offering over 4,000 seats per month aboard Airbus A320 aircraft.

Earlier this month, on June 1, Avianca also inaugurated a direct route between Quito and New York, marking the airline’s second new route in Ecuador this month.
