Foreign direct investment received by Chile in 2022 reached US$17.105 billion

The flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) received by Chile in 2022 reached US$17.105 billion, according to data reported Tuesday by the Central Bank, InvestChile reported.

They detailed that the amount is 12 percent higher than the accumulated in the same period of 2021, 36 percent higher than the average of the last five-year period, and 23 percent higher than the average of the historical series between 2003 and 2022.

Chile’s Minister of Economy, Nicolás Grau, said in a statement that “the figures published by the Central Bank show that the Chilean economy is resilient”.

“When choosing where to install their projects, global companies focus on long-term results, which is why it is a good sign that foreign investment continues to grow in our country because it speaks of confidence in our economy and its future development,” he added.

Meanwhile, the director of InvestChile, Karla Flores, complemented that last year’s record was the highest since 2015 and one of the highest figures in the historical series from 2003 to 2022, excluding the mining boom from 2010 to 2015.

“We are facing an injection of capital and long-term resources, as 92 percent of all the capital flow that entered the country corresponded to new projects or expansion of existing operations.”

“Only 8 percent was loaned to subsidiaries from the parent company,” she said.
