Lula da Silva’s team to ignite lawfare campaign against Bolsonaro and his allies

Lula da Silva’s  PT (left) campaign management is said to file a lawsuit directly with the Supreme Court before the end of the month to disqualify Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo Bolsonaro, Carla Zambelli, and Nikolas Ferreira.

After winning the election, da Silva’s campaign team is not resting.

While the President-elect has gone on vacation to Bahia, his vice president Gerardo Alckmin is leading the transition.

And his campaign manager Aloizio Mercadante is preparing a lawsuit before the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) to disqualify the current president, Jair Bolsonaro.

The lawsuit seeks to have the leftist-dominated STF, where nine of the 11 judges were appointed by the PT, convict Bolsonaro for alleged abuse of political and economic power, which would disqualify him from participating in future elections.

The lawsuit cites as evidence public statements by the president criticizing the electoral system, warning of possible fraud, and questioning the security of voting machines.

According to reports from the Petísta campaign, evidence from elected deputies Carla Zambelli, Eduardo Bolsonaro, and Nikolas Ferreira, Bolsonaro’s three strongest campaign aides, could also be included in the lawsuit.

In this way, da Silva intends to eliminate any real competition from the right in the first days of his government, which begins on Jan. 1.

The PT’s legal team is also preparing another lawsuit to be filed in parallel, focusing on economic issues, including financial benefits released by the government during the electoral process, such as granting loans deducted from payroll to beneficiaries of Auxílio Brasil.

According to Lula da Silva’s campaign management, Bolsonaro has decided to issue social plans in 2022 to improve his position in the elections, something both he and Dilma did during their terms but were never denounced for.

This claim is the weakest since the proposed constitutional reform (PEC), the so-called “package of kindnesses” that increased the Auxilio Brasil social assistance from R$400 to R$600, was approved in Congress with the votes of the entire PT and da Silva himself asked to vote for Bolsonaro’s measure during the election campaign.

Finally, the President-elect’s advisors say they have one last trump card up their sleeve if the other two demands fail: to investigate Bolsonaro for his handling of the country during the pandemic.

According to the PT party, Bolsonaro collected bribes to buy vaccines and fought governors to prevent them from crippling the economy.

Both allegations were denied by the Chamber of Deputies Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI), which investigated Bolsonaro on the issue throughout the election cycle and found nothing.

However, the Petísmo camp hopes that its allies in the Supreme Court will ensure a conviction in this case if the other cases fail.

It should be recalled that the most vital figure in the STF is Alexandre de Moraes, a judge allied with Lula da Silva.

He is currently leading the fake news inquiry case against Bolsonaro, another attempt to disqualify the current president.
