Bolsonaro Asks Voters to Erase Criticism of him on Facebook

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro used the weekly live broadcast on the Internet on Thursday night to fend off criticism that began to emerge among his supporters, particularly after he formalized the appointment of assistant prosecutor general Augusto Aras to the Office of Prosecutor General.

In the video, Bolsonaro even asked those who voted for him to delete the negative comments they made on his Facebook page.

Bolsonaro again said that he had chosen a new prosecutor who scores 7 in all matters, and not just 10 in the fight against corruption.

“I am asking you. On Facebook, you made some heavy comments, take them back, give me a chance. Do you think I want to send someone there to disrupt your lives? I don’t,” he appealed.

Earlier, the president had said that he would stop reading comments on the social media that were “mocking” him. Bolsonaro also asked people to give him a chance to get to know Aras before “condemning” him.

“If people condemn me, without giving Augusto Aras a chance, if he is approved in the Senate, he can show his worth,” he said, then completing: – “As I have said, I owe loyalty to the people, but not the other side’s blind loyalty.”

Bolsonaro again said that he had chosen a new prosecutor who scores 7 in all matters, and not just 10 in the fight against corruption. He asked for a vote of confidence to those who voted for him and even “made enemies”.

“I ask you who believe in me, to continue believing until I prove otherwise, give me that vote of confidence. You who freely voted for me, who worked, who made enemies, who spent money, who took to the streets, who did not want the PT anymore, did not want what came in third and fourth place, keep giving me this vote of confidence – he said”.

The president’s broadcast occurred side by side with ministers Jorge Oliveira (General Secretariat), André Luiz Mendonça (Solicitor General) and Wagner Rosário (Federal Comptroller General).

Minister Sérgio Moro, of Justice and Public Security, also took part in the first minutes of the live event during which the president justified the vetoes to the project of abuse of authority. Bolsonaro recalled that his vetoes can be overturned by Congress.

“It’s the democratic game. The final word depends on Congress,” he said.
