The Federal Police of Brazil arrested on Tuesday four officers of the Military Police suspected of omission or collaboration with the coup acts carried out by thousands of Brazilian Spring protesters son Jan. 8 in Brasília.

According to information from the Federal Police gathered by the Globonews network, those arrested are “colonel Jorge Eduardo Naime Barreto, captain Josiel Pereira César, major general Flávio Silvestre de Alencar and agent Rafael Pereira Martins”.

The arrests are part of the fifth phase of Operation “Lesa Pátria” (Harms Homeland), which seeks to punish those responsible for the coup threat

Among those arrested, the most important is Barreto, who at the time of the coup attempt was head of the operational department of the Military Police in the Federal District, therefore, the most responsible for the actions of the police officers.

So far, the images and the investigation opened by the authorities show that the Military Police did not act with the necessary force to prevent the demonstrators from invading the buildings of the National Congress, the Planalto Palace, and the Federal Supreme Court.

The arrests are part of the fifth phase of Operation “Lesa Pátria” (Harms Homeland), which seeks to punish those responsible for the coup threat.
