The Ministry of Health established that the use of the mask or chinstrap will be optional from now on, so that its use is no longer mandatory in public transport and in other interior spaces such as hospitals, as it has been in force until now.

“The non-mandatory nature of the use of the chinstrap is established,” says resolution 1,849 published in the Official Gazette.

Coinciding with the arrival of the southern spring, the Health portfolio led by Carla Vizzotti specified that the use of the mask is still recommended indoors, “including work, education and public transport.”

The ministry recognized the mask as an “effective tool” to prevent the transmission of respiratory viruses and seasonal diseases such as the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19.

Currently, the country is in a sustained decline in cases, the agency pointed out.

“From the advancement of vaccination coverage, the incidence of severe disease and mortality from COVID-19 has been considerably reduced, regardless of the circulating variant,” it confirmed.

But neither natural immunity nor the vaccine guarantee its elimination, so “particular situations may arise where it is necessary to establish the use of a chinstrap,” specified the Health portfolio.

The Ministry of Health delegated in each jurisdiction of the country the adoption of other recommendations according to their epidemiological situation.

The South American country accumulated more than 9.7 million cases of COVID-19, with 129,855 deaths recorded as a result of this disease.

In the last week, 7,175 infections and 25 deaths associated with the coronavirus were registered, in a country where more than 82% of the population completed their vaccination scheme.
