Brazil: port of Paranaguá receives the largest load of fertilizers in its history

Last Friday, the 13th, the Port of Paranaguá began unloading the largest load of fertilizers received from a single vessel in the history of the Paraná facility.

The volume reaches almost 75,000 tonnes.

The installation manager predicted that the unloading would end this Thursday, the 19th, depending on weather conditions.

The Red Marlin ship is moored at the pier operated by Fospar. The vessel is practically 230 meters long and has the capacity to transport up to 85,000 tonnes of bulk.

The cargo came from the Chinese port of Tianjin. The Yunnan exporter carried out the shipment.

In Brazil, the company is represented by Fertibroker. The maritime agency responsible for the vessel is Orion.

According to Luiz Teixeira da Silva Júnior, director of operations for the Port of Paranaguá administrator, previously, the largest cargo of fertilizers received at the facility had been with the ship Lord Byron.

The landing took place in July 2022 and approached 65,000 tonnes of fertilizers based on nitrogen and phosphorus.

“We are receiving larger and more loaded ships thanks to recent investments in maritime infrastructure”, said Luiz Teixeira da Silva Júnior.

“Works such as the demolition of the Palangana stones and the permanent maintenance dredging provided operational gains for the terminals, with an increase in depth”.

According to the company, the ports of Paraná are the main ports of entry for fertilizers in Brazil.

“In 2022, almost 10 million tonnes were imported through the Paranaguá and Antonina terminals”, informs the company in a note. “The volume represents 27.5% of all that the country receives in terms of fertilizers.”
