Venezuela joins Brazil and Argentina’s initiative to create a common currency
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced today, Monday, that his country, the world’s inflation champion, supports the initiative put forward by Brazil and Argentina, the world’s inflation runner-up, to create a common currency.
“I announce that Venezuela is ready, and we support the initiative to create a Latin American and Caribbean currency. Independence, union, and liberation of Latin America and the Caribbean”, he said during a public act.
The Venezuelan President’s statements were made during a rally at the Miraflores Palace (Government House) against the blockade imposed by the United States and its allies.

He recalled that the proposal to promote a South American currency that could be used at a financial and commercial level was announced on Sunday by his counterparts of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, and Argentina, Alberto Fernández.
The Venezuelan President also sent greetings to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) that will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, in Buenos Aires on the occasion of the VII Summit of Heads of State and Government.
“I send a greeting of union and liberation to the peoples of CELAC who are going to meet in Argentina,” he emphasized.
The Venezuelan government confirmed this Monday “a series of actions of aggression” against the delegation headed by Nicolás Maduro, so it was decided to send Foreign Minister Yván Gil as head of the delegation.
