Two Vessels Begin Journey from Dubai to Enhance Ivorian Oil Production

In a grand ceremony in Dubai, the FPSO Petrojarl Kong and the FSO Yamoussoukro started their voyage to Abidjan.

This marks a crucial milestone for the Baleine Phase 2 project, heralding growth in the global oil sector.

The Baleine Phase 2 project represents a significant expansion in offshore oil development for Ivory Coast, enhancing the country’s oil production capacity.

This initiative strategically positions Ivory Coast as a major contributor to the energy sector in Africa.

Ivory Coast’s Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, addressed a distinguished crowd.

His speech highlighted the Baleine field’s rapid advancement from discovery to production, a historic achievement for Ivory Coast.

Minister Sangafowa-Coulibaly aims to establish the extractive sector as a primary economic pillar in the country, following agriculture.

Baleine’s first phase exceeded expectations, boosting daily outputs by 40% more than forecasted.

This success sparks hope for maintaining high standards in the project’s second phase.

The Minister commended the teams from Altera and Dubai World Drydocks. They prepared the vessels for sea within just a year, showcasing remarkable efficiency.

These units will soon join the FPSO Baleine, located 50 kilometers off the Ivorian coast. Together, they reinforce Ivory Coast’s strategic position in the oil industry.

This development precedes the International Exhibition of Extractive and Energy Resources (SIREXE) in Abidjan.

Scheduled from November 27 to December 2, 2024, SIREXE 2024 will spotlight initiatives like Baleine and explore investment opportunities.

The Baleine project is driving economic growth in Ivory Coast. It boosts local firms’ involvement in oil operations and supports a legal framework for local content.

This involvement is elevating local skills, vital for the industry’s long-term sustainability.

In his closing remarks, Minister Sangafowa-Coulibaly assured that Phase 2’s challenges would be met with robust enthusiasm.

He invited global partners to witness the first oil extraction from Phase 2 by the end of 2024, a momentous milestone in Ivory Coast’s journey to prosperity.
