Boluarte stated that her government is committed to presenting Peru’s vision of a human-centered Amazon, where the country must play a significant role globally.

In addition to being her first travel, it will be the first time she will govern remotely following the approval of a bill on June 9 that allowed for this possibility.

Previously, this was not feasible as Peru has had no vice presidents since Boluarte’s inauguration after the removal of her predecessor Pedro Castillo.

The summit, called by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will gather eight heads of state.
