Peru Reports 3.37% Inflation in First 10 Months of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) revealed that Peru experienced a 3.37% inflation rate from January to October 2023.

In October alone, a 0.27% decrease occurred. In Metropolitan Lima, inflation rate adjustments meant a 2.99% rate for those ten months.

This information came from the INEI’s report on economic price changes. Over the past 12 months, the national inflation rate reached 4.52%.

For Metropolitan Lima, the figure stood slightly lower at 4.34%. A closer look shows Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages prices dropped by 1.73% in October.

Communications prices slightly dipped by 0.02%. Interestingly, the Education sector’s prices remained stable.

Factors like fruit prices (down by 8.4%) influenced these changes. Prices for vegetables, legumes, and tubers fell by 4.6%.

Dairy products, including milk and cheese, decreased by 0.8%. Conversely, some areas saw hikes: fish and seafood prices increased by 2.1%, and bread and cereals by 0.6%.

INEI further explained other sectors’ performance in October. The Transportation sector increased by 0.42%.

Other areas like Restaurants and Hotels experienced a 0.34% rise. Sectors such as Housing and Utilities also went up by 0.33%.

Lastly, of the 26 cities in Peru measuring the Consumer Price Index (CPI), only six reported price hikes in October.
