Peru: 5 impressive lagoons that you can not miss

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In Peru, many lagoons or lakes are located along the coast, highlands, and jungle. According to the environment that surrounds them, these natural water reservoirs have different characteristics.

LLANGANUCO, ANCASH

Located in the Cordillera Blanca in the province of Ancash, Llanganuco is one of the best-known and most popular lagoons in the area. It is surrounded by large mountains and stunning snow-capped peaks, including Huascaran and Huandoy. Its beautiful turquoise color and little surrounding vegetation make it a unique destination for many tourists.

LAGOON 69, ANCASH

One of the main attractions of Huascaran National Park is Lagoon 69. Located 96 kilometers from the city of Huaraz, this lagoon is 4,600 meters above sea level. It is one of the more than 400 lakes parts of the Huascaran National Park, considered a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and a World Natural Heritage Site.

HUMANTAY, CUSCO

The Humantay Lagoon is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Peru. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful turquoise lagoon with the imposing snow-capped Salkantay upon arrival. To get to this lagoon, we must trek for an hour and a half.

YARINACOCHA, UCAYALI

For jungle lovers, the Yarinacocha lagoon is a must-see destination. The Ucayali River forms its waters, and it has a total surface of 1,340 hectares. It is located in the destination of the same name and has a river port from where you can get tours to travel throughout its territory.

MORON, ICA

It is usually believed that in Ica, we can only find the Huacachina, but no, there is another oasis located further north of the city: Moron. It has the shape of the map of Peru, but it is still not very visited. You can swim in its warm and clean waters.
