Namibia Advances LGBTQ+ Rights Amid Uganda, Ghana’s Restrictions

Namibia’s High Court recently declared common law offenses of sodomy and “unnatural sexual offenses” unconstitutional, prompting a government appeal.

This landmark ruling, aimed at eliminating discrimination against sexual activities based on gender and orientation, marks a pivotal shift in the nation’s approach to LGBTQ+ rights.

The legal challenge, initiated by Friedel Dausab, a gay Namibian man, centered on the argument that criminalizing consensual male homosexual acts contradicts Namibia’s constitutional promises of equality and freedom from discrimination.
