Today’s Focus
Morocco’s stock market lost ground again on Monday. The MASI, the benchmark of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, fell 0.83% to 17,159.50 points.
The session began well. The index opened 0.79% higher at 17,441.23 points, but buyers did not stay, and the MASI slid to its low of the day by the close.
Trading was thin. Turnover of 129.6 million dirhams (about US$13.0 million) was half of Friday’s level, so the fall came on light volume.
The dirham also weakened. A dollar now buys about 9.99 dirhams, the highest level on our chart, which starts in April.
What matters today. The loss was smaller than Friday’s 1.57%, but the index has now fallen three sessions in a row and broke a technical support at 17,600 points.

01 The session in one read
The MASI, short for Moroccan All Shares Index, tracks every share listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange. It fell 0.83% to 17,159.50 points on Monday, a loss of about 144 points.
The day began with a rebound attempt. The index rose 0.79% at the open to 17,441.23 points, then gave back the gain and ended at its lows.
The MASI 20, which follows the 20 most liquid stocks, fell 0.59% to 1,242.04 points. The MASI ESG index, which tracks companies with strong sustainability ratings, lost 1.36% to 1,263.16. The MASI Mid and Small Cap index dropped 0.93% to 1,664.24.
Turnover on the central market was 129.6 million dirhams (about US$13.0 million). Market capitalisation ended the day at 1,008.4 billion dirhams (about US$100.9 billion), against 1,019.08 billion dirhams (about US$102.0 billion) at Friday’s close.
The index has lost ground in each of the last two sessions: 1.57% on Friday and 0.83% on Monday. The pace of the fall slowed, but volume fell by half, which means few buyers came forward at these levels. Light volume on a falling day can mark exhaustion of sellers, but it can also mean that investors are simply staying away. The MASI is now about 9.4% below its 28 August level of 18,931.06 points. Boursenews, a Moroccan market site, notes that the chart has weakened after the break below 17,600 points. Until volume returns, Monday’s close reads as a continuation of the decline, not a turning point.
02 The day’s numbers
| Measure | Level | Change | Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| MASI | 17,159.50 | −0.83% | Open was +0.79%; third straight fall |
| MASI 20 | 1,242.04 | −0.59% | Most liquid stocks held up better than the broad index |
| MASI ESG | 1,263.16 | −1.36% | Best-rated ESG companies fell most |
| MASI Mid and Small Cap | 1,664.24 | −0.93% | Smaller companies also lower |
| USD/MAD | 9.9898 | +0.49% | Dirham weaker against the dollar (vs 9.9414 on Friday) |
| Turnover | MAD 129.6m | −50% | About US$13.0 million, against MAD 259.6m on Friday |
The MASI 20 fell less than the broad market on Monday, while the ESG index fell more. That suggests the selling was not limited to the smallest and least liquid names.
The dirham does not float freely. Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank, sets a central rate from a basket made up of 60% euro and 40% US dollar. The dirham may move up to 5% either side of that rate. When the dollar firms against the euro, the dirham usually loses ground against the dollar.
Our market data put the dollar at 9.9898 dirhams at 17:00 UTC on Monday, against 9.9414 at Friday’s close. That is a 0.49% rise, and a 3.9% rise from the 9.611 of Friday 25 September. The cause is not stated in the sources we checked, so we do not assign one. All dollar conversions in this report use 9.99 dirhams per dollar.

03 Why it moved: the names behind the index
The sources we checked did not publish a sector breakdown or a list of the most traded stocks for Monday, so we leave both out rather than guess.
The published lists of the biggest movers show a market split between a few sharp rebounds and a few sharp falls.
Stokvis Nord Afrique, a distributor, rose 9.98% to 50.79 dirhams (about US$5.08). It had fallen 10% on Friday to 46.18 dirhams, so it recovered nearly all of that loss in one session.
Zellidja, a mining holding company, gained 3.88% to 260 dirhams (about US$26.03). Cartier Saada, a food company, added 3.62% to 19.48 dirhams (about US$1.95).
On the other side, IB Maroc.com, an online brokerage, fell 6.62% to 49.49 dirhams (about US$4.95). Rebab Company and Jet Contractors each lost 5.61%.

Most-traded shares and closing prices of the large banks and holding companies were not available in the sources we used, so we show none.
Stokvis Nord Afrique has swung hard in recent sessions: down 10% on Friday and up 9.98% on Monday. Moves of this size in a small stock usually reflect thin trading, not news. We leave out moves in shares where only a handful of trades took place.
06 The regional scoreboard
| Index | Country | Change |

For foreign investors the message is simple: the Moroccan market is drifting lower without panic, and the weaker dirham adds a currency cost for anyone who holds dirham assets and reports in dollars.
07 What Prediction Markets Say
Morocco held legislative elections on 23 September 2026. The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) came first, and under the constitution the king names the head of government from the leading party. Traders on Polymarket, a prediction market, now bet on who will lead the next government.
Polymarket, 5 October 2026, 1:05 pm ET. “Aziz Akhannouch out as Morocco Prime Minister by December 31, 2026?”: 94.4% yes, with about US$171,000 traded. “Next Prime Minister of Morocco?”: Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri 94.1%, Mohamed Ouzzine 2.8%, Mohamed Chaouki 0.5%, Nizar Baraka 0.5%, Abdelilah Benkirane 0.2%, Aziz Akhannouch 0.1%, with about US$33,800 traded.
These prices are real-money bets, not polls and not official announcements. Volumes are small. The appointment of the head of government belongs to the king.
Why we show this: prediction markets turn real-money bets into a live probability that moves within minutes of the news, which is why investors, campaigns and newsrooms in the United States now follow them closely. We show them next to polls and official results, never instead of them.
08 What to watch
- Tuesday’s session: whether the MASI holds above 17,000 points, and whether turnover recovers above 130 million dirhams (about US$13 million)
- The dirham: the dollar at about 9.99 dirhams is the highest on our chart, which starts in April; a move through 10.00 would be a new round-number level
- Government formation: the king’s choice of head of government and the coalition talks that follow
- Calendar: our economic calendar lists no Moroccan data releases for Monday 5 October
