Lula Da Silva cries as he says his priority will be to end hunger
President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was moved this Thursday (10.Nov.2022) when he said that if every Brazilian has at least 3 meals a day, his mission will be accomplished.
In a speech at the CCBB (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil) in Brasília, where the transition of government is taking place, the PT member said that he would never wait for hunger to return and his priority will be to end the disease.
“The same speech I gave in December 2002, the same speech. You don’t have to change a single word. I want to tell you: if when I finish this term, every Brazilian has breakfast, lunch and dinner again, I will have fulfilled the mission of my life,” he said. Soon after, the president-elect became emotional and began to cry.

Lula said that it is necessary to include the poor in the Budget and that it is necessary to seriously discuss the country’s social issue. According to him, the only reason he returned to the presidency was to try to “re-establish the dignity of our people.”

While crying, Lula was given a standing ovation by the other members of the transition, such as the vice-president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), and the PT president, Gleisi Hoffmann.
“The fact is that I never expected hunger to return in this country. Never. When I left the Presidency of the Republic, I imagined that in the next 10 years, Brazil would be the same as France. That country would be like England. That country would have evolved from the point of view of social achievements,” he said.
This Thursday (Nov. 10), Lula and Alckmin should meet yet to finalize the last details of the PEC (Proposal for Amendment to the Constitution) scavenger hunt. The measure was designed to pay, outside the spending ceiling, campaign promises from PT, such as the Auxílio Brasil of R$600 in 2023.
After the meeting, the members of the transition must meet the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG ), at his official residence to present the text. This must be presented by a senator and be processed in the Upper House to be processed more quickly.
