Grêmio Take Control in Porto Alegre
Grêmio of Porto Alegre beat Atlético-MG 2-0 on Sunday, 1 November, in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil semifinals, Brazil’s national knockout cup. The match kicked off at 4:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. in Brasília) at the Arena do Grêmio.
Carlos Vinícius, a Grêmio striker, opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a long ball from goalkeeper Weverton found him behind the Atlético-MG defence. Vinícius then beat Atlético-MG goalkeeper Gabriel Delfim from the edge of the area.
Erick Noriega, a Grêmio midfielder, added the second at the start of the second half, finishing a low cross from teammate João Pedro.
Weverton made several saves, including from Atlético-MG’s Renan Lodi and Bernard. Grêmio finished with ten men after teammate Gustavo Martins received a second yellow card in stoppage time, but held on to the two-goal lead.
What the Aggregate Means
Grêmio can lose the return leg by one goal and still reach the final on aggregate, and a draw would also be enough. Atlético-MG must win by three goals to advance in regular time.
Brazilian press reports say a two-goal Atlético-MG win would send the tie to a penalty shootout. We have not confirmed that rule with the CBF, Brazil’s national football confederation, which organizes the cup.
The two clubs have met in a Copa do Brasil final before, in 2016. Grêmio won that title with a 3-1 win at the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte and a 1-1 draw in Porto Alegre.

Why we show this: prediction markets turn real-money bets into a live probability that moves within minutes of the news, which is why investors, campaigns and newsrooms in the United States now follow them closely. We show them next to polls and official results, never instead of them.
