Born and raised in São Paulo’s favelas, the Racionais MC’s members; Mano Brown, Ice Blue, Edi Rock and DJ KL Jay; formed the group in the late Eighties and grew to be considered one of the most famous hip-hop crews in Brazil.
With lyrics that depict the grittier side of the city and the social injustices perceived from within, Racionais MC’s have been compared to famed American hip-hop group Public Enemy.
Racionais MC’s have released five studio albums, two live albums and have appeared on complications albums including 1989’s Consciência Black, Vol. I. They are well known for their songs including; “Mil Faces De Um Homem Leal”, “Diário de um Detento” and “Mágico de Oz”, among others.

Tonight Casa da Martiz hosts the 27th edtion of Rockaway with DJs Polly, Grazzia and Ivy bringing the sounds of indie rock, classic rock, grunge, metal, punk and pop-rock, while DJ Arlei Hey Hey will present the best of Britpop, spinning everything from the Beatles to Arctic Monkeys, to Oasis to Blur to Queen. Caipirinhas and caipivodkas will be double dose (two for one) for only R$11 all night long and the drinks; Cuba Libre, Hi- Fi and Kill Me Please will be double dose until 1AM.

At 8PM Marcos Novatto & Pimenta de Garrafa will start the night off at Rio Scenarium as they interpret the works of Noel Rosa, Chico Buarque and Jorge Benjor. Next at 9PM Luiza Dionísio performs songs from her debut album entitled, ‘Devoção’ (‘Devotion’) as well as sambas by Wilson Moreira and Luiz Carlos da Vila, among others. Closing out the night will be Chamego Nordestino. The trio will celebrate Brazil’s North-East region with the sounds of forró pé de serra beginnning at 2:30 AM.

Tonight in Lapa singer Joyce Cândido and the group Samba Urbano will fill the first floor of the Leviano bar with the sounds of samba. Meanwhile on the second floor, Bailão Leviano will present a show from Seu Bando featuring the best of samba, MPB, soul and pop rock.
