The incident involved a Bell-412 helicopter belonging to Aviation Group Number 5 and took place around 8:30 pm in the La Cumbre sector, near San Juan de la Costa.

All five members died at the scene.

The causes of the accident are under investigation, according to a statement from the FACh. The Air Force is also providing support and assistance to the families of the deceased.

Chile’s President, Gabriel Boric, expressed his condolences in a national address, and a moment of silence was observed in the Chamber of Deputies in memory of the five fallen military personnel.
