Federal Supreme Court Justice Lifts Bolsonarist Deputies’ Banking Confidentiality

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Federal Supreme Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes yesterday ordered the lifting of banking confidentiality of congressional deputies from President Jair Bolsonaro’s support base.

The decision was made as part of an investigation into anti-democratic activities, and aims to determine whether deputies financed the rallies calling for the closure of the National Congress and the Supreme Court. The information was released by GloboNews and CNN Brasil.

According to CNN, there are ten federal deputies and one senator targeted. The deputies are Daniel Silveira, Junio Amaral, Otoni de Paula, Caroline de Toni, Carla Zambelli, Alê Silva, Bia Kicis, General Girão, Guiga Peixoto and Aline Sleutjes . The senator is Arolde de Oliveira.

The Federal Police served 21 search and seizure warrants against Bolsonaro’s allies yesterday morning. Among the targets were leaders of the party that the President is trying to found, called Alliance for Brazil, a federal deputy, and right-wing bloggers and YouTubers.

The proceeding is investigating the origin of funds and the financing structure of groups suspected of promoting street protests with anti-democratic agendas. Federal Police agents were mobilized in five states (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Maranhão and Santa Catarina) and in the Federal District.

Targets

Among the 21 targets of yesterday’s operation are Luiz Felipe Belmonte and Sérgio Lima, respectively vice-president and marketeer of the new Alliance for Brazil. According to Lima, the police were at residential and commercial addresses yesterday morning.

Right-wing bloggers and YouTubers are also among those investigated. Three of them were identified as Émerson Teixeira, better known as “professor oppressor”, Fernando Lisboa, and “Ravox”.

Federal Deputy Daniel Silveira and blogger Allan dos Santos, of the “Terça Livre” website, said Federal Police officers were in their homes yesterday morning. Allan has already been subject to search and seizure proceedings.
