Embraer to Pause Operations in Brazil in January, Give Collective Vacation to Employees, Says Union

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Embraer will grant collective vacation to all its employees in Brazil, some 15,000 workers, in preparation for the transfer of control of its commercial aviation division to American aviation giant Boeing, said one of the company’s unions on Thursday, October 10th.

According to the Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos (SP), where the company’s main plant is located, the vacation period will be between January 6th and 20th.

The decision, in addition to halting the company’s activities in the state of São Paulo, will also affect units in Belo Horizonte, said the organization.

“Embraer announced that it will give collective vacation to all workers operating in the units located in Brazil to carry out the transition of the company’s command to Boeing’s Americans,” said the union.

The organization added that the company’s decision “is causing apprehension among workers, concerned about the measures that the new company’s management may eventually take”.

In a note released on Thursday, the company said that the vacation aims to “implement the internal separation of the company’s commercial aviation business, which will fully remain in Embraer until all approvals from the competition authorities have been obtained,” and that activities will be regularly resumed after the 20th.
