Covid-19: Brazil Totals 54,900 Deaths and 1.22 Million Cases (June 25th)
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil recorded 1,141 new deaths from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, according to a Ministry of Health update released yesterday, June 25th. With these additions to the statistics, the country has reached 54,971 deaths from the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The daily update shows an increase of 2.1 percent in the number of deaths compared to Wednesday, June 24th, when the total stood at 53,830.
The balance also recorded 39,483 new cases, totaling 1,228,114. There was a 3.3 percent increase in the number of infections compared to Wednesday when the Ministry’s data recorded 1,188,631 people infected.
Of the total, 499,414 are under observation and 673,729 have recovered. Unlike earlier reports, yesterday’s did not include the number of deaths still under investigation.
The lethality rate (number of deaths by total cases) stood at 4.5 percent, while the mortality rate (deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) was 26.2. The incidence rate (confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants) stood at 584.4.
The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (13,759), Rio de Janeiro (9,450), Ceará (5,875), Pará (4,748) and Pernambuco (4,488). Among the states with high death rates are Amazonas (2,731), Maranhão (1,871), Bahia (1,601), Espírito Santo (1,490), Alagoas (958), and Paraíba (842).
São Paulo also leads among the states with the highest number of cases (248,587), followed by Rio de Janeiro (105,897), Ceará (102,126), Pará (94,036) and Maranhão (74,925).
