Colombian authorities seize five tons of cocaine in three Caribbean ports

By · September 16, 2022 · 2 min read

Colombian anti-narcotics police seized five tons of cocaine hidden in containers that criminals intended to take out of the country with the destination of Europe in three operations today, the police agency announced.

“In a first case, carried out at the port of Barranquilla, police officers inspecting containers destined for international destinations discovered a stash of cocaine mixed with cocaine substrate destined for the city of Valencia in Spain,” an official report said.

According to authorities, a police dog discovered the shipment after a routine check, during which 2,782 kilos of the drug were seized.

Also, in the neighboring port of Santa Marta, anti-narcotics police discovered 1,811 kilos of cocaine in a container of fruit destined for Belgium.

“The authorities used a portable scanner that determines the density of surfaces. Rectangular shapes resembling packaging were visible on the screen, so it was necessary to open each box to remove the drugs,” the memo says.

In a third operation, authorities in the neighboring port of Cartagena de Indias discovered a stash of 410 kilograms of cocaine in a container that arrived by ship from Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Colombian anti-drug police have seized more than 104 tons of cocaine in the Caribbean this year.
