Brazil’s SLC Agrícola Grows Bigger as Farmland Value Surges

SLC Agrícola, one of Brazil’s top farming companies, saw its land value jump 7.1% in 2025, reaching R$13.4 ($2.5) billion. Deloitte, an independent auditor, confirmed this number. Each hectare of productive land now averages R$58,960.

This year, SLC bought nearly 48,000 hectares from Agrícola Xingu, a Mitsui subsidiary, for R$913 million. Most of this land is in Bahia and Minas Gerais, two major farming regions.

The company also expanded by leasing more land, now managing about 360,000 hectares in total. SLC’s business model mixes owning and leasing land to stay flexible and grow fast.

In the first quarter of 2025, the company’s revenue rose 19.1% to R$2.3 billion. Net income more than doubled to R$510.7 million, thanks to bigger harvests and more land.

But growth has a price. SLC spent heavily on new land and crop inputs, leading to a negative cash flow of R$1.4 billion in the first quarter.

Still, its debt levels remain under control, according to company reports. Brazilian farmland remains cheaper than in the U.S. or Argentina, but prices keep rising.

SLC’s strategy is to profit both from farming and from the increasing value of its land. SLC Agrícola’s expansion shows how owning and controlling land is central to success in modern farming.

As global demand for food grows, the company’s bet on land puts it in a strong position to supply markets and build long-term value.
