Brazil’s B3 Nears Record as Domestic Strength Outshines Global Headwinds

Brazil’s B3 stock exchange advanced on July 1, 2025, with the Ibovespa closing at 139,549.43 points, up 0.50%. Official B3 data show the index approaching its all-time high, underpinned by strong domestic flows and resilience in key sectors.

The day’s moves came as investors weighed local fiscal disputes against a backdrop of global volatility. The Ibovespa’s gains stemmed from robust performances in real estate, electric utilities, and industrials.

Embraer led the winners, rising 4.42% to 80.41 reais after announcing a major jet sale to Scandinavian Airlines. Cosan climbed 3.06% to 7.07 reais, while Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição gained 2.60% to 3.16 reais.

JBS and Gol also featured among the top five, with Gol surging on confirmation of its exit from bankruptcy protection. On the losing side, Azzas 2154 dropped 4.42% to 41.10 reais, reflecting profit-taking after recent gains.

Sendas Distribuidora fell 3.20% to 10.90 reais, and Natura lost 2.26% to 10.80 reais. Brava Energia and WEG rounded out the top five decliners, pressured by sector-specific headwinds.

The Brazilian real weakened, with the dollar rising 0.50% to 5.46 reais. This move reflected lingering fiscal concerns as the government defended its IOF tax hike in court.

The Ministry of Finance reiterated its commitment to fiscal targets for 2025 and 2026, but investors remain cautious about the pace of adjustment. Foreign capital continues to support B3, with inflows exceeding 21.5 billion reais in 2025, the highest since 2019.

This influx has buoyed both blue-chip and smaller stocks, offsetting external pressures. Macroeconomic data show GDP proxies rising and inflation expectations easing, though still above the official target.
