The statements were given to entrepreneurs in a commendation award ceremony, held by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP).

“President Bolsonaro’s government, acting with clarity, determination, and patience, seeks to restore fiscal balance and, simultaneously, increase our productivity by pulling the weight off the state’s inefficiency for those who invest, work and produce in this country,” he said in a speech.

According to the vice-president, the government intends the country to be acknowledged as the largest and most prosperous liberal democracy in the southern hemisphere.

“We will not retreat from this task, we will constantly move forward so that, within our vision of the future, within the project we have and envision for our country, our Brazil will be known as the largest and most prosperous liberal democracy south of the equator. This is our declared goal,” he said.

In the event, named FIESP – Homage to the Armed Forces, Mourão was awarded the Commendation of Order of Industrial Merit of São Paulo, at the Grand Cross level, the highest commendation bestowed by the organization.

The vice-president briefly described the significance of the Brazilian Armed Forces in the country’s history and emphasized their role in the 20th century: “We faced and defeated the worst enemy that this country has ever had on three occasions, the international communist movement. We did not shrink from this task,” he said.

The vice-president also emphasized the army’s role in fighting fires in the Amazon rainforest, and in cleaning up the northeastern beaches affected by oil spills.
