WhatsApp to Launch New Options for Group Message Self-destruction

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – WhatsApp is expected to add a feature that allows you to automatically delete group messages after a certain time. The novelty, which is under development and has not yet been released to users, is hidden in beta version 2.19.348 for Android.

The report is from WABetaInfo, which typically advances some of the new WhatsApp features. According to the website, the App has been working on the option to self-destruct group messages at least since October. It will allow admins to set a sort of expiration date for messages.

To enable message self-destruct, accessing the group settings and selecting the Delete messages item will be required. The feature will be disabled by default, but can be set to delete messages after one hour, one day, one week, one month or one year after they have been sent.

WhatsApp left the feature hidden in the beta version, suggesting that it is being finalized and is still not fully functional. As WABetaInfo points out, there is no indication of when the option to self-destruct messages will be released for all users.

Telegram, a WhatsApp competitor, already includes a feature to delete messages automatically for some time. The option is available in secret chats, an alternative for those seeking greater security and privacy.
