Rio de Janeiro and Bahia are the most visited beach states in Brazil

The Brazilian coast is really the national preference when it comes to summer vacations, concluded a survey carried out by the booking platform Booking.com and released this Wednesday (23).

Around 97% of the 1,206 respondents — heard during the month of July 2022 — pointed out that they prefer the country’s beaches to enjoying the sands abroad.

Furthermore, the states of Rio de Janeiro and Bahia are among the favorites — and therefore most visited — by Brazilian tourists when the purpose of the trip is to enjoy the country’s coast. They are followed in the preference of Brazilians by São Paulo, Ceará and Pernambuco.

Summer is still the most popular time for domestic travelers to enjoy the beach — the season was nominated by 82%. Brazilian tourists spend, on average, five hours a day on the shore during their holidays and the morning period is chosen for walks by 45%, almost half, of Brazilians.

The most popular activity is sunbathing, as ‘getting a tan’ is cherished by 69%. Another 59% still assured that they enjoy a walk by the sea.

IN SEARCH OF NEW LANDSCAPES

Not every beach is the same for Brazilians, who really seek to discover new sands on each trip. Four out of five (80%) of the respondents look for new stretches of coastline on vacation.

So much so that, on average, each tourist knows about four states with beaches in Brazil. There is also no giving up if the rest is short: 6 out of 10 Brazilians stay at least the weekend or for a few more days in the chosen beach destination.

Of course, this facility is greater for travelers who already live near the coast. 44% of northeastern travelers “escape” for the weekend, while those from the Midwest (a region without beaches) have to plan more to leave home and end up leading in longer stays — 52% stay at least a week in the chosen destination.

Brazilians also have very specific habits for enjoying the beach — and, who would know, the beachside beer is not a national preference. While 61% prefer the ‘gelada’ (cool beer), about 80% consume coconut water, the drink most cited by respondents.

The caipirinha is preferred by 30%. But snacks and rituals aside, the important thing is to reach the ocean, the preferred destination of 64% of the ears. Four out of 10 of respondents still said they go to the beach “whenever they can.”
