American Airlines’ investment deal with Brazil’s Gol confirmed

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - American Airlines has finalized a deal to invest US$200 million in Brazilian low-cost carrier Gol and develop an exclusive codesharing agreement.

Announced last September, the agreement entails American Airlines taking a 5.2% stake in Gol and appoint a member of the Brazilian carrier's board of directors.

The deal enables the carriers to become exclusive codeshare partners between the U.S. and Brazil. Combined, they operate flights between 30 cities in the U.S. and 20 destinations in Brazil, according to American.
