Tourism Fair Returns to Rio’s Pier Mauá After Eight Years

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – After an eight-year hiatus, the State Tourism Fair will once again be held in the marvelous city. The announcement was made by the state Secretary of Tourism, Otávio Leite.

As part of the event, which will be held from August 22nd to 24th at Pier Mauá, the 92 municipalities that make up the state will be given the opportunity to attend and promote their tourist attractions to both Rio locals and tourists.

According to the Secretary, the fair will be divided into sectors. In the first sector, cities will exhibit typical products and handicrafts, as well as their landscape, sights, and history.

There will also be areas reserved for institutional introductions of each city and others for package sales, where visitors may schedule their next vacation or leisure trips. A sector for the presentation of studies on tourism will also be provided, where an exchange of knowledge and experiences focused on its enhancement will take place.

Otávio Leite also emphasized the significance of tourism in the state economy, accounting for eight percent of its GDP. He expressed the state government’s personal commitment with corporate events and fairs and disclosed data to improve safety indexes, a factor he believes to be crucial in attracting visitors.

Termed the “new oil” by the state government, tourism has been showing signs of strength in recent times. An example of this was the recent decision to reduce the ICMS rate on aircraft fuel to seven percent, a measure that applies only to new flights to and from the state.
