Paraguay and Japan discuss possible trade agreement

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Paraguay‘s Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration, Raúl Cano Ricciardi, and the Ambassador of Japan, Nakatani Yoshie, discussed the possibility of a free trade agreement with Mercosur, according to the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry.

“In the framework of a greater rapprochement of Mercosur to Asia, they discussed the relevance of continuing with the exploratory dialogue leading to the negotiation of an ambitious and balanced free trade agreement between Mercosur and Japan,” the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Mercosur is made up of Paraguay, which currently holds the pro tempore presidency of the bloc, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela (currently suspended).
