Agro exports by Peru surpass those of Chile in 2021

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Based on the results delivered by FreshFruit, according to the evaluations carried out by the entity, Peruvian exports of agricultural products broke a record in 2021 by reaching US$8.9 billion, which allowed them to achieve fourth place in the ranking of agro exporters in Latin America, surpassing Chile.

Compared to 2020, Peru’s fruits, vegetables, and grains shipments grew 18%. Thanks to this result, they achieved an 8.6% share, displacing Chile in the process, being fifth with 8.4%.

According to FreshFruit estimates, the ranking of agro-exporters in Latin America and the Caribbean was led by Mexico (23.3% share), Brazil (16.4%), and Argentina (16.2%). They are still far ahead of Peru and Chile, although with a very concentrated portfolio or destinations.

In this context, the company specialized in trade intelligence for the agro-export sector said that “although Latin America has been growing, it still represents a small percentage of food supply in the world (16%)”.

Thus, the Peruvian growth in agro-exports in 2021 allowed it to surpass Chile, although it will have to double its current levels to tempt the Top 3.
