RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez discussed Thursday in Abu Dhabi with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and de facto ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed, on ways to boost bilateral cooperation in the areas of food, renewable energy, and logistics.

“I am grateful for the hospitality of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed, with whom we agreed to promote a rapprochement that generates new opportunities between Paraguay and the United Arab Emirates in the areas of food, renewable energies, and logistics,” Abdo Benítez said in a message on his Twitter account.

For its part, the official Emirati news agency, WAM, reported in a note that both leaders “addressed various aspects of bilateral relations and ways to develop and boost cooperation, especially in the economic, investment, trade, development, and renewable energy fields”.

They also “exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and the world”, without giving further specifications, and on the Expo2020 being held since last October in Dubai.

Abdo Benítez took the opportunity to express his gratitude for the support offered by the Emirates to the Paraguayan health sector to face the covid-19 pandemic.

The South American leader arrived Wednesday night in the Emirates for a visit that will continue on Friday with his participation in Paraguay’s National Day celebrations at the Dubai Expo.

He is scheduled to return to his country on Saturday.
