Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay confirm candidacy to host the 2030 World Cup

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The illusion of bringing the 2030 World Cup to South America is taking shape after Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay re-launched their candidacy to host the World Cup.

At a press conference, the vice-president of Paraguay, Hugo Velázquez, announced the South American countries’ proposal to “carry out the 2030 World Cup”.

This candidacy went through moments of instability after the pandemic, but now the bid is stronger than ever. Velázquez pointed out that “we are starting the process again, and we will immediately confirm the working groups”.

He said he spoke with the president of CONMEBOL so that he could facilitate both the postulation and the election of the South American World Cup.

He clarified that the countries of the southern cone of America do not have the economic solvency to compete with the great powers but can offer an austere World Cup, with different climates and magnificent cities.

Finally, he pointed out that despite “not having the economic resources”, they will “resort to history and remember that the first World Cup was held in South America” and that the continent “has exported the best players in history”.
