Authorities rescue 110 migrants crammed in trailer box in northern Mexico

On Thursday, September 23, Mexican authorities rescued in the state of Nuevo Leon (north) 110 foreign migrants traveling in overcrowded conditions in the dry box of a trailer towards the border with the United States, informed the National Institute of Migration (INM) of Mexico.

In a statement, the entity detailed that federal agents of the INM detected the cargo unit during a tour carried out with public security elements of the municipality of Galeana as part of migration control tasks.

“The voices and whispers evidenced the presence of minors and adults inside the truck. Migrants of different nationalities who could not prove their regular stay in the national territory were located.”

“In strict adherence to human rights, they were taken to the state’s migratory headquarters to provide them with water, food, and medical attention since they were being transported in overcrowded and unventilated conditions,” added the INM.

According to the identification made during the administrative migration procedure, 96 rescued migrants came from Guatemala, seven from Ecuador, five from El Salvador, and two from Honduras.
