Another woman detained for attempted murder of Argentine VP

The Argentine justice ordered the arrest of one of Brenda Uliarte’s friends, accused together with her boyfriend Fernando Sabag Montiel in the case that investigates the attempted assassination of the vice president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, reported judicial sources to which the court had access. Judge María Eugenia Capuchetti, responsible for the case, “ordered the arrest of one of Brenda Uliarte’s friends, surnamed Díaz,” they said from the federal courts.

The young woman was arrested on the night of September 12, during an operation by the Airport Security Police, when it was found that she maintained “strong content” communications with her friend Brenda Uliarte in the hours after the attack against the vice president.

After examining Uliarte’s cell phone, among other devices, it was determined that there had been another assassination attempt against the vice president that was aborted.

The investigators decreed the secrecy of the summary on September 12 while progress is made in the analysis of all the seized material to determine the responsibilities and the role of each of the detainees in the planning of the attack.

The investigation now focuses on the reconstruction of the days prior to the assassination attempt, with detailed observation of images, communications and georeferencing.

The objective is to try to establish circuits and routes, as well as to detect the repeated presence of third parties in the vicinity of the former president’s home, located in the Recoleta neighborhood of the Argentine capital.

In the last few hours, three raids were carried out, two in the province of Buenos Aires and one in the city of Buenos Aires, for the purpose of seizing cell phones, electronic devices, and other items of interest to the file.

The failed attack took place on September 1, when Fernando Sabag Montiel, a 35-year-old man, pointed and fired the pistol twice in front of Fernández de Kirchner’s face.

The aggressor tried to assassinate her when the former president was returning to her home, in the Recoleta neighborhood of the city of Buenos Aires, in the context of a trial that has her prosecuted for allegedly directing public works projects in the province of Santa Cruz (south) during her administration (2007-2015) and that of her husband, the late Néstor Kirchner (2003-2007).

Sabag Montiel is of Brazilian origin although he has lived in Argentina since he was 6 years old and has a criminal record for illegally carrying weapons.
