Alberto Fernández announces change of Minister in the Argentine housing portfolio

The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, announced that the current Minister of Territorial Development and Habitat, Jorge Ferraresi, will leave his post on Nov. 1 and will be replaced by the current Secretary of Housing, Santiago Maggiotti.

“Ferraresi will return to his beloved Avellaneda next Nov. 1 to resume the management at the head of the municipality,” said the president on social networks.

Ferraresi, who was mayor between 2009 and 2020 of the Buenos Aires municipality of Avellaneda, will return to that town to regain his position, as confirmed by Fernández after meeting on Sunday with the still minister to analyze the housing and habitat policies carried out by his administration.

The Ministry of Housing has so far delivered more than 60,000 properties, while another 140,000 are under execution.

In addition, “70,000 credits were granted, and thousands of housing solutions were managed”, described Fernández when he asked the new administration to maintain “the same dynamism”.

Once the ministerial change in the Territorial Development portfolio is formalized, only five of the 21 ministers who started at the beginning of the current administration in December 2019 will remain.

The announcement comes ten days after Raquel Kelly Kismer de Olmos, Victoria Tolosa Paz, and Ayelén Mazzini took office as new ministers of Labor, Social Development, and Women, Gender, and Diversity.

The Chief of Cabinet of Ministers, Juan Manzur, also announced that he would leave his position next year to run as vice-governor in the elections of his province, Tucumán (northwest).

Most of the resignations or dismissals that have taken place in recent months in the Fernández government were due to tensions between the president and the vice-president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, over the direction of the administration.
