Brazil has 72 of the 197 best higher education institutions in Latin America in 2022, according to a survey published Thursday (14) by the British magazine Times Higher Education. Of these, 28 are among the 50 with the best regional rating, says the Times Higher Education survey 2021.
Among Brazilian universities, USP (University of São Paulo), Unicamp (State University of Campinas) and UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais) top the rankings.
The state of São Paulo is home to Brazil’s most important higher education institutions, followed by the Rio Grande do Sul state.

The annual ranking of the world’s best universities, compiled by the British Times Higher Education magazine, includes 70 Brazilian students among 1,662 institutions in 99 countries.
The ranking is based on 13 indicators that measure the performance of institutions in four areas: Teaching, Research, Knowledge Transfer, and International Recognition.
“A good university is one that can provide relevant expertise for professional performance and foster the development of fundamental skills for the present and future of work,” says Danilca Galdini, head of Insights and partner at career consultancy Cia de Talentos.
Oxford University in England tops the list for the sixth consecutive year.
In Brazil, USP (University of São Paulo), Unicamp (State University of Campinas) and UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais) top the list.
Unifor (Universidade de Fortaleza) improved from last year, while UFSC (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina), Unifesp (Universidade Federal de São Paulo) and PUC-Rio (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro) fell back but are still in the top 10.
UNB (University of Brasilia) and Unesp (State University Paulista) fell back and are no longer in the top 10.
