Bolivia announces reform of Police Disciplinary Regime because “it criminalizes good officers”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “We have many pending tasks within the institution, we must analyze and redesign the Police Disciplinary Regime Law (…) a law that has often become an instrument to criminalize good police officers and which is not fulfilling its real purpose, namely to punish misconduct,” Del Castillo said.

He also noted that the government intends to develop a “law of the police career plan,” for which he has urged officers, active or retired, to submit their proposals to the General Command.

“The evaluation of the National Police Academy’s curriculum is pending, with the aim of improving the knowledge that police officers can acquire,” Del Castillo added.

Finally, within the framework of the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief of Staff and the National Police Directors, Del Castillo used the opportunity to detail this intention, and explained that the government will also work on implementing a rule by points in order for the Police to have “clear rules” in the internal evaluation processes within the institution.
