What Taste of Cape Town Is and Why It Matters

Taste of Cape Town is a food and lifestyle festival where restaurants sell their signature dishes from stands on one open-air ground. The organiser promises twelve of the city’s hardest reservations cooking side by side in the open.

The format comes from the Taste festival series, which the organiser says has filled grounds in more than 20 cities. Those include London, Paris, São Paulo and Dubai.

Taste of Cape Town is produced by The Allure Group, a South African events agency led by group chief executive Bonnke Shipalana. Its announcements frame the festival around South African food culture, from shisa nyama, the township barbecue tradition, to fine dining.

Taste of London fills Regent’s Park with 55,000 visitors every June, the Cape Town organiser says. The Allure Group holds the exclusive South African licence through IMG, the global sports and events company.

For a US visitor, the appeal is simple: one ticket, one ground and a taste of a famous food city. Taste of Cape Town expects more than 12,000 guests across the weekend, its organiser says.

Taste of Cape Town Schedule and What Happens

The festival’s ticket terms set Saturday 28 November from 11:00 to 22:00 and Sunday 29 November from 09:00 to 21:00. Last entry is one hour before closing, and there is no re-entry unless your ticket type allows it.

South Africa is seven hours ahead of US Eastern time in late November, after US clocks fall back on 1 November. Saturday’s gates therefore open at 4 a.m. in New York, and Sunday’s at 2 a.m.

The ground is divided into five zones, one for each of the senses, according to the organiser. Its signature moment is the Sundown Ritual, when guests raise a glass as the sun touches Signal Hill.

Taste School, a masterclass theatre, lets small groups learn knife work, plating and wine pairing from the chefs cooking on the ground. Slow Life offers long tables under the trees, acoustic sets and winemakers pouring.

The SABC, South Africa’s public broadcaster, is the official broadcast partner, the festival announced on 20 August 2026. It plans coverage on television, radio and its SABC Plus streaming service before, during and after the weekend.

Taste of Cape Town Tickets and Prices

Taste of Cape Town tickets are sold through Quicket, and the organiser’s own tickets page embeds the Quicket sales window. The ticket terms ban resale, and tickets bought from anyone else can be refused at the gate.

The basic Taste Pass costs R450 (about US$27) and is valid for one day of your choice. Conversions use about 16.54 rand to the US dollar on 12 October 2026.

The Taste Premium Pass at R595 (about US$36) adds a voucher for one signature dish. The Taste Lux Pass at R895 (about US$54) adds dish vouchers and a welcome drink.

A Lux package for four friends costs R3,222 (about US$195) in total. VIP table and lounge seats cost R4,700 (about US$284) to R5,200 (about US$314) each, booked for groups of two, four or six.

VIP guests get priority entry, a hospitality lounge, a light meal and free drinks from 11:00 to 17:00. The VIP areas are closed to anyone under 18.

Children 12 and under get in free with a ticketed adult, up to two per adult, and Quicket also lists a free Kids Pass. Teenagers aged 13 to 17 need a paid ticket and an adult companion aged 21 or older.

Getting to Taste of Cape Town

The Green Point Cricket Club sits at 111 Vlei Road in Green Point, close to the Atlantic seafront. DHL Stadium, home of the Cape Town Sevens, stands in the same neighbourhood.

The Quicket event page carries a map and a directions link for the ground. Taste of Cape Town has not published parking or shuttle details, so a taxi or ride-hailing app is the simplest choice.

The State Department advises travellers to verify all trip details before getting into a ride-share car. It also advises against driving outside cities at night.

Visitors flying in land at Cape Town International Airport, the city’s main gateway. Plan the trip into town before you arrive, especially if your flight lands after dark.

Tips for US Visitors

US citizens do not need a visa for South Africa for stays of less than 90 days, the State Department says. Your passport must be valid for 30 days after you leave and have two consecutive blank visa pages.

The State Department rates South Africa at Level 2, which means exercise increased caution. It warns that ATM and credit card skimming are common, so keep your card in sight when paying.

Late November is late spring in Cape Town, and the festival is held outdoors, so bring sunscreen and a layer for the evening. Bags are searched at the gate, and glass, outside food and drink, and drones are banned.

The same stretch of the calendar is busy across the city. Our Cape Town Sevens guide covers the rugby tournament at DHL Stadium on 5 and 6 December.

Cape Town Tourism lists the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts from 25 November 2026 to 29 March 2027. A food weekend in Green Point combines easily with a concert at the botanical garden.

What Is Not Confirmed Yet

The names of the twelve restaurants have not been published on the festival’s website. Line-up announcements go first to newsletter subscribers, the organiser says.

The Taste School timetable and the acoustic acts on the Slow Life lawn have not been announced either. Masterclass places may be tight, since the organiser describes sessions in small groups.

The Taste of Cape Town experiences page lists Saturday as 10:00 to 21:00, an hour off the ticket terms. Check the time on your ticket before you set out.

The organiser’s announcements give the Lux Pass three dish vouchers, while the Quicket description lists two. Check what is included at checkout before you pay.

Payment methods at the food stands, cash or card, have not been published yet. Carry a card and some rand in small notes to be safe.
