São Paulo’s iconic Art Museum reopens to the public this Saturday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), a landmark on the busy Av. Paulista, will reopen to the public next Saturday, April 24th, following the state government’s new guidelines in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic. The museum will operate at 25% capacity until April 30th, when a new reassessment of the São Paulo Plan will be conducted.

Online booking, including for free days, is still mandatory and must be done through the link: masp.org.br/ingressos. The box office will remain closed and the purchase of tickets, with day and time scheduled, will be available exclusively online, with no convenience fee, as announced by the museum.

When purchasing a ticket, visitors are entitled to view all exhibitions on display, such as “Beatriz Milhazes: Avenida Paulista”, “Degas”, “Video Room: Teto Preto” and “Acervo em Transformação”, the museum’s long-term exhibition.

On April 24th, 25th and 27th, the museum will be open from 11 AM to 7 PM; on April 28th, 29th and 30th, from 1 PM to 7 PM.

MASP announced that it has adopted all the necessary measures for a safe visit, which can be consulted on the institution’s website. Among the health safety actions are the reduction of maximum capacity of visitors, the mandatory use of masks, and compliance with social distancing.

The museum is internationally recognized for its collection of European art, considered the finest in Latin America and all Southern Hemisphere. It also houses an emphatic assemblage of Brazilian art, prints and drawings, as well as smaller collections of African and Asian art, antiquities, decorative arts, and others, amounting to more than 8,000 works.

MASP also has one of the largest art libraries in the country. The entire collection has been named by Brazil’s Institute of History and Art to the Brazilian National Heritage list.
