São Paulo Daily Pulse for Tuesday, January 27, 2026

Three things to know

  • Traffic is already heavy, with the west zone leading delays this morning.
  • Rodízio is in force for plates ending 3 and 4 during peak hours.
  • Afternoon downpours are expected, raising flood and falling-tree risks.

São Paulo is back in its normal weekday rhythm, but it is a fragile rhythm. A few hours of intense rain can turn routine plans into detours.

The city’s traffic dashboard shows a broad slowdown pattern. West zone congestion is the standout, at 69 km of slow traffic. East and south are both at 55 km. The center sits at 36 km, and the north at 26 km.

Public transport is not immune. Average bus-corridor speeds are around 22 km/h toward neighborhoods and 20 km/h toward the center. That is a quiet warning for tight schedules.

Rodízio is active today for plates ending 3 and 4. The restriction applies in the morning from 7:00 to 10:00. It also applies from 17:00 to 20:00.

The other pressure point is the weather pattern. The city’s emergency weather service expects heat and sea-breeze effects to trigger storms later today. The risk is localized flooding, lightning, and gusts.

Those are the conditions that often produce sudden road blocks and power flickers. This week also carries two background risks that matter even when they are not “new today.”

Dengue is building early, with the first confirmed death in the state this year. Power reliability remains sensitive after recent large outages and official scrutiny.

One practical note for late-night movement. Marginal Tietê has scheduled partial closures overnight this week, from 22:00 to 04:30. The window runs Monday through Saturday. Plan extra time for airport or terminal runs.
