More than 10,500 athletes will walk through the stadium at part of The Parade of Nations and the Olympic cauldron will be lit by the Olympic torch to officially mark the beginning of the games.
Many national superstars will perform live and make appearances during the ceremony; international surprise guests are expected, and more than 6,000 volunteers will dance during the ceremony.
In addition to the stadium, there will be many sites and venues throughout the city where those without tickets to the ceremony can watch the ceremony live.

Club France Opening (Lapa)
Tonight the Sociedade Hípica Brasileira in Lagoa will host the grand opening of Club France. With a capacity of 4,000 visitors, the Club will offer family-friendly activities during the Olympic Games including autograph sessions, sports demonstrations, and medal celebrations for the athletes of the French Olympic Team. The opening tonight will feature a sports tournament with the group « les Sportifs de Rio »; a show by the French collective Batukavi; and a performance by opera singer lírico Fabrice Di Falco and harpist Sylvain Bezia. Following the opening tonight, Club France will be open August 6th through 21st from 12PM to 2AM with a daily entrance fee of R$10 – R$20. Tickets to parties at Le Club must be bought separately.
