Portuguese naval vessels cooperate with Guinean navy in an exercise
The Portuguese Navy’s National Detached Force, comprising the Setúbal and Zaire ships, are stationed in Bissau for a cooperative exercise with the Guinean Navy, according to an announcement from the Portuguese embassy.
As part of the Open Sea initiative running from April to August, the force will engage in several joint activities with the Guinean Navy.
These activities include joint landing training, medical support, and an asymmetric threat exercise on the Geba River, with some elements of the Guinean Navy on board the Setúbal ship.
The exercises are scheduled for Monday.

This visit follows an earlier visit in April, during which a high-speed vessel was handed over to the Guinean Navy for defense purposes.
The participating force includes two ships, marine-based force projection and security teams, divers, and a medical team.
The Open Sea initiative aims to promote maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and along the West African coast, uphold international agreements with Portuguese-speaking nations, and contribute to the European Union’s Coordinated Maritime Presences project.
